A native of Madison, Wisconsin, Rita spent 20 years working in the financial services industry as Vice President of Trading and Operations for an investment management firm. While she still proudly retains her cheesehead heritage, she fell in love with beautiful Tampa Bay, moving here and investing in the community as a business owner in 2006.
Her years as a business leader have given her a deep knowledge of Operations and Human Resource Management, making Rita the brains behind the business of The Hip Room Dance Studio.
But she’s not all financials and operations. Rita is passionate about dance, and is a constant student of the art form. As a founder, Rita’s insight as a dance student was the pivotal force that inspired The Hip Room’s student-centric approach to dance instruction.

Kristian found her passion for partnership dancing in 2006. It was the discovery of an idea that clicked for her, which was there was more to dancing than just learning steps, but being able to help people learn how to connect through movement, that drove Kristian to become the passionate instructor she is today.
Kristian believes in the powerful connection built between two people when they work together on the dance floor, and has dedicated her life to sharing her knowledge and passion with all of her students. She teaches with the philosophy that each student is unique and is able to take an individualized approach, setting individual goals based on her students needs and wants. No Partner? No Problem! Kristian teaching singles and couples alike, her passion is in the people. Dancing everyday is a bonus!
I was born in Chicago, but I didn’t get involved with dance until I was attending college in Massachusetts. My University had a ballroom dance club, and my buddy literally had to drag me there.
Until that point in my life, dancing was never something that I had an interest in. As I started to go to the classes, I realized that dancing was actually fun. I was hooked; I attended every meeting of the club for the rest of the semester, and in the spring, they organized a trip to go watch a local competition. The competition was something I had never seen before in my life. Everyone looked like they were having the time of their life. It was then and there that I knew that dancing was something that I wanted to get really good at.
After college, I moved to Kentucky, and continued my dance journey, taking lessons with all the top pros in the area. I competed professionally in the International Standard division, and later, American Rhythm.
Needing to further my dancing, I moved to Florida about 8 years ago, and I continued to progress. Here, I have competed in both International Latin and Standard. My dancing has taken me to places all over the world, and deciding to do it as a career has been the best decision of my life.
